Allgäu – It Simply Feels Good!
Let’s say it right away: when it comes to our homeland, the Allgäu, we’re biased. But who could blame us? Life here is simply wonderful. And there are plenty of reasons for that. We’d love to share the most important ones with you, so you know exactly what awaits you here.
Nature & Freedom
The Allgäu region is bordered to the north by the Danube River and to the south by Lake Constance and the Allgäu Alps. In between lies a wealth of beauty, nature, and freedom. The mountains, lakes, meadows, and forests are an invitation to move, relax, and marvel.
We Allgäu locals accept this invitation often enough. That's why you'll find us after work still on the mountain, on our bikes, in the alpine pastures—in short, out in the fresh air. You can breathe deeply, find peace, and recharge your batteries everywhere you look in the Allgäu. Perhaps that's why we're so grounded and easygoing.
Tourist crowds? Yes, there are some in certain places. Our cultural highlights, like the royal castles in Schwangau and historic towns, attract many visitors. But on the other hand, there are countless small villages off the beaten track where you can be completely alone and experience nature at your own pace.
Bad Hindelang and especially the mountain village of Oberjoch are among them!
Wellness & Health
Did you know that Sebastian Kneipp came from the Allgäu region? His Kneipp cure is based on three pillars: nature, water, and exercise. Did he draw inspiration from his homeland? We don't know, but it's possible. Because nature in the Allgäu does something to us.
It's a playground for diverse activities all year round. It provides energy when we allow it and connect with it. It fascinates and makes us aware of how precious it is. For many, that's wellness enough.
For everyone else, the Allgäu shows that we also know how to do wellness in the modern sense, with everything that goes with it, of course. Although we Allgäu locals are said to be very hardworking, we also like to treat ourselves to a good time.
Food & drink
Want to know what the Allgäu region tastes like? We have a fondness for simple, down-to-earth cuisine. Whether it's Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle), dumplings, or Kaiserschmarren (shredded pancake), you'll find them in mountain huts and on the menus of traditional inns.
The culinary scene in the Allgäu couldn't be better. There are numerous local producers who create high-quality food. And in the Allgäu, we know how to enjoy ourselves. Both are essential.
Within a small area, you'll find regional producers of milk, cheese and other fine dairy products, meat, fish or game, bread, fruit, and vegetables. Here, it's easy to eat regionally and healthily!
So that we understand each other correctly
